The Real Face of Iran - The Observer
"Iran is in the news for all the wrong reasons, but what's it like to go on holiday there?"
A short and interesting article from the Observer by Tony Wheeler who went on holidays to Iran.
Of all the places on earth, I think that Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Siberia are the last places I'd visit. And even then Siberia sounds more appealing than Iran.

Danny I think you'd actually do us a favor by not visiting Iran.
There are few places in our neighborhood such as Pakistan that would welcome you with open arms; they are your allies, they are not religious fanatics, hate anything related to nuclear power, and have a very democratic government (backed by the US of course). Moreover, they cater very well for your tiny size of brain. I suggest you pay a visit to the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka first to wash your sins off. Best of luck.
PS: you might need to buy something called a "map" to find out where other countries (and other states in your own country) are. It's not too expensive. There are online versions of that available too.

that was a good read, thanx 4 the link. our tourist industry needs a serious overhaul, and that depends on the international politics and tensions.

Thanks Tony,
for sharing with people ignorant of the beauty in the people of Iran, just how friendly and hospitable it is in this architecturally stunning country.
I, like you, have travelled extensively, and I have NEVER experienced such seemless generosity as that which was showered upon me since before I even crossed the border from Turkey into Iran in Sept 2005.
People, old and young, male and female, stopped me in the street just to welcome me to Iran and to thank me for coming. To which I could respond with all sincerity in my heart "I FEEL welcome!".
Some women (equally as beautiful as the men!) even apologised to me about my having to wear a scarf, albeit halfway hanging loosely around the crown of my head. By the time I got to Pakistan I wanted to keep it on, as it felt quite refined and beautiful (over my dreadlocks...!)
People gave up not only their beds or bedrooms for my friend and I, but we found out later that 1 person's father had actually moved out of the wing of the house that someone had given us SO THAT we could stay with his daughter and husband in comfort!
I have sooo much to learn about generosity, and what an overwhelming experience of it I had whilst in Iran. I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit and meet the PEOPLE....

That Danny doesn't sound too smart. I'm a Brit who went on holiday to Iran and had the time of my life. I went to Kish, Esfahan, Yazd, Tehran, Dizin and had a great time. Nice people, great food.
I liked it so much I'm going back there this summer with my girlfriend. I'm more worried about going out of my front door and being beaten up by drunk football hooligans than I was in Iran.

That Danny doesn't sound too smart? He isn't, just read his blog and you know what level of IQ he's got!

Hi Tony, great journal man!
I am a university student in Tehran. I just read your journal and the comments too. Yeah, Danny, you really ARE a retard, aren't you? I would really like to see you going to Iran and getting embarassed by your disgusting attitude and the warmth and the welcoming feeling that the Iranian people give you.
Hey guys, any of you visited Kashan at all? Or Kelardasht (a beatiful northern city) If not, then follow this link and you will see some magneficient photos taken by an Iranian photographer:
