Disgusting Abuse

Parthisan

If you thought only 18 Tir incident was horrible, read and watch what "university security" has done to an Iranian-American student in UCLA. Even the word 'disgusting' cannot express my feelings.

Reminds me of the film "Crash". LA police hmmmmm... the most racist police department in the US.

It's disgusting! I could barely watch the video. I cannot believe this happened and people just accept it. Even if the kid was a child molesting rapist neo-Nazi who had just ran around the library screaming for an hour, ripping up everyone's homework assignments and pissing into the garbage cans, he shouldn't be tortured with a god damn taser for several times.

However I do have a gist though, he was asked to show ID. He refused. Why? He was asked to leave REPEATEDLY, he refused. Why? He ONLY began to leave when the second tier security arrived. Apparently, one of the officers attempted to stop him by securing his arm probably to ask him questions perhaps like; Who are you? Why did you refuse to leave? What's in your backpack? etc. Questions you'd definitely want to know from a guy who ONLY decided to leave once the police arrived! Don't you agree? Most of us, here in the UK, are students and aware of restricted areas such as university's resources centres and libraries etc, although I'd say we live in a far civilized society in compare to the US! But I do blame the kid most on this!

Regardless of our patriot sympathy with this incident, as he is an Iranian fellow, who would be railing against the police officers if this individual had a gun or a bomb??

I think this is a classic case of taking on the bull and getting the horns. I don't like pain, and feel for anyone who suffers pain; but I can't go with a defiant student. I look at it like this: he just earned a few stripes towards rank in the real world!
Don't you think so? -- However, finally on my understanding of law, the "Taser" is not to be used against people as a tool to force obedience. It is to be used as a "less than lethal" force against VIOLENT assailants.

I hated it, I was in shock. Cannot even imagine something like that happening in our computer lab!

That boy is guilty to some extend and is to be blamed for what happened, but come on amir, do you presume that every person without an ID card in the computer lab is carrying a bomb? I don't think this is a fair assumption for the university environment. Otherwise every single building and lecture hall has to be equipped with airport-style security devices!

What I saw in that film is a sick reaction by police to a simple problem. That guy was probably either trying to finish his home work or was chatting with his mates on the internet.

There is no explanation for such a barbaric reaction. I hated it.

Joe:

The reality of the situation is that no matter where you are in the world if you are beligerant with the police, they will use the maximum force afforded by law to encourage you to behave. He could have avoided the entire incident by leaving the first time he was asked! He waited until the police arrived and then decided to make a demonstration and may have even attempted to spark a riot. He is lucky the police have such friendly tools as tasers to motivate him. 10 years ago he would have been motivated with billy clubs with the most likely side-effect of injuries that would be noticeable for months. It doesn't matter if you are Iranian, German, Polish, or even a Texan; if you behave as he did you will not enjoy the consequences.

John:

The reality of the situation is the US police is generally driven by paranoia not brain. Doesn't matter where they operate: Iraq, Times Square, NIST, Afghanistan or a library in UCLA. The very fact that they cannot comprehend the difference between the people they're dealing with causes such atrocious behavior. The security lot in UCLA lacked even a tiny bit of common sense.
