Literacy level in LA
I just came across an article about Googoosh's recent concert in Los Angeles, and thought this photo is real fun :-)

As I saw in Hoder's site,Iranian's even in LA seem not to know how to write WELCOME BACK!!!

Wellcome (okay then come) or Wel come ("not English" + come) are well known and very popular forms of this English equivalent of Iranian or better to say Eastern hospitality across Iran's Sandewichiz (take aways) and even very posh restaurants, one even sees similar wrong spellings on the coaches and Truck which I'm sure you are all aware of (BUTIFUL BUS etc.)
One thing really worthg thinking about though is the fact that while very posh restuarant owners in Iran spend thousand and thousand of tomans making these signs (not always) without bothering to check the right spelling, thousand and thousand of Iranians go "oon vare ab" (across the atlantic) without bothering to check the right spelling :)
(As the big mouth linguist of the community I just had to respond to this)

Agree with Saman.
The lower the 'level of literacy' (as said in the title), the lower your attention to intellectual matters.
For a posh-looking restuarant in Tehran or a creepy Kababi in LA, the last thing to think about is spelling, especially in English.

You guys are all right, but we must also mention that according to US statistics Iranians are the most educated immigrants in the USA. Many of them having Masters degrees.

Sorry to interrupt guys.
Yes Unity they are amongst the most educated 'immigrants', comparing to whom? mexicans, arabs, dominicans, chinese, eastern europeans...
Not a big deal, really. how 'many' of them have masters degrees?
I think this photo from BBC is very expressive.

this is so shameful that Iranians make fun of each other... shame on us

wow what a nice spelling, I love it.
Winston are you happy now?

I've noticed a space between WELL and COME. Is it possible that the guy who wrote it was trying to say something else?
But then again, I don't know what he was trying to say!
