The impeachment and sack of the minister

West Ender

Today the transport minister was impeached by the parliament and sacked. The whole impeachment thing was part of a political power struggle between the different fractions of the Iranian government. The new conservative-dominant parliament got rid of one of Khatami's ministers and rumours say there are more impeachments to come.

However I still believe this minister (and the ones before him) should have been impeached much earlier only because of the terribly low quality of Iran's transportation infrastructure and poor record of road safety in the country. More than 20,000 people are killed in the country every year because none of the officials in charge are capable of doing their job. The number of casualties is more than a bloody war!

I'm a bit pissed off that lack of road safety and under-developed infrasturcture was only a tiny part of his accusations. These poor records were by themselves enough for a full-scale impeachment.

Last but not least, I am not at all hopeful about any kind of improvement in this sector whatsoever, regardless of the next minister.
