Anniversary of the incident of Iran Air 655
On July 3, 1988, the Iran Air Flight 655 was shot down by the American warship USS Vincennes on its usual route from Bandar Abbas to Dubai over the Persian Gulf, killing 290 innocent people. The incident shocked the whole country and the world. A couple of years later, William C. Rogers III who was the captain of USS Vincennes at the time of the incident was awarded the Legion of Merit award for "exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of an outstanding service" by George Bush (Sr). The mainstream media in America did not/are not pay(ing) much attention to it except in a few occasions.
Since then I have been on no flight to Dubai without thinking about the innocent passengers onboard flight 655. Let me keep this post short and suggest you to read related posts on FToI and Eyeranian.
thanks alot for reminding us. when i saw Moje Morde i was thinking again that how that stupid man could give this award to Rogers!! when this incident happened i was a little boy without any idea about politics, war, revolution,... . but i was looking for this question. How????

Apparently this is an award that is given to all captains in the US navy. It's not something special, but I wonder how he received this award even after causing such a mess!!

I bet you have never heard of two iranian F-16s flying above the IranAir Airbus! this was totally iranian's fault.you've got to listen to other parties' stories as well. This is your own goverment who does not give a damn to the lives of people whether iranian or not ...I'm afraid!

Roba, firstly I have read many articles about this, including the official Vincennes report (as it's published in the States) and the official submission of both government to the international court of criminal justice. Secondly Roba, honey, my love :-) don't believe in everything you hear, you know you can't count on rumours, not to mention referring to them. After all Iran has got no F-16s :-))) Have a good day my love

Roba
Please provide some official information. I think your claim is not right becuase :
1- The USA paid compensation to the people who lost their family in this incident.
2- I am not sure, but I guess Iran did not have any F16 fighters 15 years ago. Most of our aircrafts were F14.
3- I had a freinds (i dont know where is he now) who lost his father in this incident, his father worked in south of Iran. I am sure that his father did not have any relation with army.
4- Moreover, do you think that is it possible that two Aircrafts supported this aeroplane and when the aeroplane was target by the missile, those two aircrafts left whitout any action???
