What about Iran then?

West Ender

image of Saddam in courtToday was Saddam's first appearance in the court. He was brought to the court room with handcuffs attached to a chain around his waist. What goes around comes around, I can't forget all those eight bloody years of war and cannot forgive him for ruining most of my teen life with anxiety, air raids, bombs and missiles. Still, the stressful moments that I went through were trivial comparing to the things that happened to people who lived near the border, or those who lost their loved ones and their homes. The result? The war left around a million dead or handicapped, ruined the infra-structures, and allowed dodgy people to fish from the muddy waters, take advantage of the war time situation in Iran to come to power and fill their pockets by weapons smuggling and monopolising the trade.

Now what really disappointed me today was the absence of any word about "Iraq-Iran war" in his list of preliminary charges. How is this possible? Look at the list of his preliminary charges:

I have nothing against the above charges. The Kurdish people suffered a lot under Saddam and they have every right to seek justice. But how can the court drop or ignore the charges for 8 years of war against Iran, which was Saddam's first big-scale crime and is referred to as one of the longest and worst wars of the 20th century? For God's sake! is invasion of Iran less important than crushing of the rebellions and invasion of Kuwait? I smell a rat here.

What happened to the International Court of Justice? Aren't they supposed to deal with war criminals in the Hague, the same way they are dealing for example with Milosovic?

This is obviously the duty of the Iranian government to follow up Iran's case. But do you think they would manage to do so, considering all the internal problems they have? That damned Al-Alam TV channel almost made a hero out of Saddam when the US launched its operation last year.

I'm impatiently waiting to hear more news on his trial, especially the points related to his invasion to Iran.

I just wannted to add that I can also never forget! when we lived in a hospital in Dezfool were my dad had to do his work placement, when I saw the so called 12 meter rockets passed above my head at noon heading towards Tehran. when the taxi that was taking my mother and me got a flat tire because of a rocket hiting near us, when.. and when... and when... it all fades in the face of a puppet called Saddam who is experiencing the least he deserves.

The most tense time of my life was when Iraq sent long range missiles to Tehran. I remember the worst day of my life, when Tehran was targeted by 7 Iraqi missiles, one after the other. After each explosion, my mom and I said "phew, that was it for today", but when the number of explosions reached 4, we became a bit more concerned. When it went up to 6, we really paniced, after the 7th one my mom decided that we couldn't stay in Tehran anymore. We packed and left for the shores of the Caspian sea. Over 250 missiles in Tehran alone in the last year of the war, so many innocent people were killed.

No court is just and fair without considering our cause. We want justice.

Iranians are becoming more and more isolated and secluded from the rest of the world, thats why Iran is ignored in every issue that relates to its national interests..
Can you beleive it?? Imposed war against Iran is ignored from Saddam's crimes list.

Roba, whether iran and iranian exists or not, i do exist. I'm also shocked that he's not being charged for his crime against me, my life, my friends and family, my neighbours and my city. The war ruined my life. we had to leave our homes in khorramshahr and escape. we lost everything. i hope you now understand

I am so sorry for our people, we Iranians and our open-minded writers are the most naïve and idotistic people in the world, When it comes to our national interests, we act like we are not interested, could some one please explain this to me, Why we talk about Saddam like he has not done anything to our lives, I am like 30, and before we knew where is Iraq, we knew there are bad guys coming and bombarded us everyday, now our lovely Iranian hearts become softer again on criminals (Raofat Irani- Islamimon gholombe shodee paridee vasat + our high class civilization)
