Useful Online Tools

image of a few toolsBelow is a list of a few online tools that I use frequently, and thought it might be useful for you too:

1- Online English-Persian dictionary: Very simple and fast, translates full or partial words both ways, although the Persian-to-English part is a little bit tricky. It was developed before Unicode became so popular, so it offers 8 different ways to display Persian text (unicode is obviously the best).

2- The A9 search engine: This is Google's rival set up by Amazon. If you don't find what you want on Google, give A9 a try. Make sure to see item 3 in this post.

3- Vivisimo meta search engine: Vivisimo collects and organises the outputs of several other search engines, so it is actually the best place to start your search.

4- The World Clock: Find out what time it is all over the planet; useful when you want to call your friends and relatives in remote places such as Australia, US or Canada.

5- Birthday Alarm: Never forget the birthday of your friends, especially the important ones ;-)

6- QT Movie Trailers: The best source for Movie trailers. You'll love this if you have broadband connection.

7- How to tie a Tie: Four different ways to make your tie knot, useful for grad balls, royal ceremonies (!), job, PhD, or bank interviews!

8- Wikipedia Encyclopedia: a free and comprehensive encyclopedia. with rich contents in many languages including Persian. The interesting thing is that you can participate in the content creation for this encyclopedia.

9- S1Play: If you live in Scotland, this is the best web site to find out about cinema time tables, music venues, theatres, restaurants, etc.

AJ:

A9 is Google's rival ? Then why does it say this below its search result list ?

"Search results enhanced by Google. Results also provided by A9.com, Alexa, and Amazon.com."

West Ender:

In A9, your search results will be filtered first by Google algorithms and then through Amazon's collaborative filtering algorithms. Your search results will be based on those results found most helpful by people like you. That's what makes A9 more attractive than Google I suppose.
