Iran: Motherland of Wine
Apart from poetry and art, one of the famous things about Iran is the "Shiraz wine" (French: Syrah). Shiraz wine, which is called after the grape seeds taken from vinyards around the city of Shiraz to the rest of the world, was one of the things that I could use to show off to my friends when I was a student in Manchester. Surprisingly there were students who thought that the wine itself was a product of Iran!!
In the ancient areas around Zagros mountains in a place called Haji Firuz Tappe, researchers have recently discovered the remains of wine vessels which date back to 7,000 years ago. They have discovered evidences that wine making technique was known at that time (i.e. it wasn't an accidental by-product), and that makes Iran the home to the oldest known wine in the world.
Cheers!
Thank you for this article, it is very interesting.

It's not only Shiraz where you can find good wine grapes. Locations around Hamedan, Malayer and areas around Takestan (which actually means Vinyard) in Qazvin province were natural wine production sites.
