New Direct Tehran-Birmingham Flights

Parthisan

Mahan Airlines will fly directly between Tehran and Birmingham twice a week starting from July the 2nd. Birmingham is Mahan's second European destination after Düsseldorf in Germany.

Apart from Iranian passengers, the airline is trying to get British travellers who want to travel to the far east to fly on Mahan with a very short stop in Tehran. This market is currently dominated by airlines such as British Airways, Emirates and GulfAir, with main transit airports being Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Apparently Mahan is targeting this market segment now, but I wonder how successful they're going to be especially after all the recent problems with Tehran's new international airport. Mehrabad airport certainly cannot cope with a lot of air traffic.
