About This Weblog

The Community Weblog of Persian Students in the United Kingdom was born on 19th of May 2003 after four students - two of them already active bloggers at the time - discussed the idea of a group weblog in their university halls of residence. Their intention was to create an online environment where its members could:

The first weblog was launched using the free services of Blogger.com and enetation. For the convenience of the members, it was decided to allow them to use nicknames. In the first year, 207 entries were posted on the weblog by its members.

After one year with Blogger.com, the weblog moved to its own hosting service and got its own domain name. We are planning to expand the weblog, add more features and get more members.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where is the community's main base/location/office?
A: This is an online community with no specific physical location. Because of the nature of student life, members may move around the place, or graduate and leave the UK.

Q: What topics do you talk about in your weblog?
A: Student life, education, news, art, politics, entertainment; almost anything which comes to our minds.

Q: I am not a member, can I post my photo on your PhotoBlog?
Send us your photo; if we like it we will put it in the PhotoBlog under your own name as the guest.

Q: Why don't you use your real names?
A: It's up to the members to use either their real names or their favourite nicknames.

Q: Why "Persian Students" and not "Iranian Students"?
A: The words Persia and Iran are synonymous and can be used interchangeably.

Q: Would you take members from Ireland?
A: Northern Ireland is part of the UK. We do not have members from the Republic of Ireland yet but welcome anyone who is interested.

Q: Do you also run a Persian language weblog?
A: We do not have a Persian weblog yet, but there are plans for it and we might add a Persian section in the future.

Q: Why "Persian" and not "Farsi"?
A: Persian is the name of our language in English; Farsi or Parsi is its local native name. It is technically incorrect to use the word Farsi in an English context, as it is incorrect to use the native words Ruski, Française, Ellinika and Suomi in an English context. If you are interested or still not convinced, please read Dr. Davaran's article.
